Journey to the Cure
The Lt. Dan Band and Operation Iraqi Children
February 2005
On February 26th, 2005, a coalition of Journey to the Cure Directors were fortunate enough to attend and enjoy a night of entertainment by the multi-talented Lt. Dan Band (www.ltdanband.com) at Joe's on Weed in Chicago, Illinois. Proceeds from the concert benefited the USO of Illinois.
The Lt Dan Band consists of a group of very talented musicians dedicated to entertaining our troops on the job, raising money for military families, and spreading awareness of the dedication, and sacrifices they make for our country. The JTTC directors in attendance have close family members in the armed forces, including Butch Hovarter's brother, John, who served in Iraq. JttC Vice President, Jon Kirsch recently retired from the Navy having graduated from the Naval Academy, and served as a Lieutenant for 9 years. The work being done by the Lt Dan Band is near, and dear to all of our hearts.
Actor, Director, Golden Globe winner, and Academy Award nominee Gary Sinise is also bass guitarist for the band, and founded a program "Operation Iraqi Children" after personally witnessing the tremendous need in Iraq for appropriate school supplies and other essentials for the young children there. With two elementary teachers on our Board of Advisors, we take a special interest in this incredible good will venture that Gary has launched.
We were all touched by the dedication and commitment Gary Sinise communicated when sharing his projects and the love and devotion that goes into making them grow. As hardworking volunteers ourselves, we know firsthand how that feels! That evening, we gave Gary a JTTC t-shirt, which he graciously accepted and held up in front of the large crowd at Joe's. He also allowed us to snap this picture and we use it here with his permission. Thanks Gary and team for all you do!!!
